Rescue ope
Rations to evacuate the 40 workers trapped in an under-construction tunnel in Silkyara, Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, resumed for the fifth day, with the use of an auger drilling equipment to speed up the process of digging through the rubble and freeing the victims. Through regular communication, the rescuers were also monitoring the captive workers' mental health.
If the cutting-edge performance auger drilling equipment, weighting 24 tons, functions well, it will be able to cut the tunnel at a rate of 5 mm per hour.
Three consignments of the drilling machine were delivered to the tunnel by Indian Air Force (IAF) Hercules aircraft from the Chinyalisaur helipad in Delhi. The tunnel is approximately 35 kilometers from Chinyalisaur.
Given the precarious status of the highlands where the tunnel is located, experts from Norway and Thailand were consulted. To install 800 mm and 900 mm evacuation tubes, about 50 meters of trash must be pierced. When this occurs, the workers stuck on the other side of the rubble will be able to crawl to safety.
Union Minister General (retd) VK Singh visited the tunnel today to assess the rescue efforts. "A rescue operation is currently underway." We have complete faith. "We're doing everything we can," he told the news agency ANI.
The Union Minister stated that he had spoken with workers and was hopeful that the stranded workers will be rescued. He further stated that attempts were being made to finish the rescue operations in two to three days.
"All possibilities are being investigated." The safety of workers is of the utmost importance. "We are soliciting input from international organizations," he stated.
"A new machine is in operation, with greater power and speed than the previous machine. Our goal is to finish this rescue mission in two to three days. I spoke with them (workers), and their spirits are high. "They are aware that the government is working to save them," he explained.
